[14:01] I am a data entry clerk, responsible for entering data into a computer system, usually by copying from paper documents using a keyboard and sometimes a mouse. [14:02] I’ve been trying to support myself and am okay at typing so I thought I’d take the part-time temporary secretary gig for the moment. It’s a low-skill job. It can get pretty intense to type for hours on end but they don’t bug me or anything, and I can sometimes listen to music on my headphones when they have meetings in the big room. [14:10] I am in charge of verifying information that a computer has transcribed first with OCR technology. (OCR stands for optical character recognition.) I didn’t know what OCR meant before I worked here which made the other girls pick at me a bit when I started. They’d say: “Blondie, don’t you know we work for computers?” [14:12] We don’t know each other by name, they don’t really introduce us to each other or encourage us to mingle. I don’t know what this is really about but I guess they must have caught someone trying to organize and are taking statements from everyone… So, am I free to go back now? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
